2       Student Administration

Documents required (copies on attached CD):

HPD Learning Outcomes

Student Assessment Form

Each student to receive a copy of the HPD Learning Outcomes and Student Assessment Form

Students will be required to produce work that clearly demonstrates each learning outcome and to map this work to the form. Also, work should be annotated to state which learning outcome it meets.

It is acceptable for some learning outcomes to be demonstrated other than in writing, but these then need to be written about and confirmed by the assessor. For example, you may set a requirement of conducting an initial session and record this. The student may feel that this demonstrates learning outcomes x, y and z. They would then need to write about how this tape demonstrated the learning outcomes and the assessor would need to listen to the tape and comment on the student’s comments. Alternatively this process could be conducted in class. Perhaps a student practises the Elman induction, writes up how it was done, and then the assessor comments on how they perceived it as well as the student’s perception. For this reason, we suggest that students keep a journal during the course.

On completion of the course, each student should have a complete record of how all learning outcomes have been demonstrated.

3         School Administration

An Internal HPD Assessment & Verification Form remains with each batch of students as registered on the NCFE electronic form.  This form remains with the NCH Internal Assessor.

One copy of the HPD should always remain with the student or school and one copy sent to the Internal or External Verifiers when requested.

         Internal Verifier:

At two prearranged points in the course, the Internal Verifier will request to see specific students’ work to check on progress.  On completion of the course they will ask for another sample.  The Internal HPD Assessment & Verification Form will be completed by the NCH on each assessment. NB: this means that ALL students need to be assessed on a regular basis; ideally, at least three times during the course.

         External Verifier:

The External Verifier will also request to see some samples of work.

When you are asked for a portfolio, send a copy of the student’s Assessment Form (completed to that point) and a copy of the written portions of the work, including relevant journal entries. You do not need to forward any tapes or CDs,.

On completion of the course, send the assessment forms only to the office.
